Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Renewal  

Refresh your skills in the treatment of the adult victim of a cardiac arrest or other cardiopulmonary emergencies. This American Heart Association course is designed for healthcare providers who either direct or participate in the resuscitation of a patient, whether in or out of hospital, and need to renew their certification. To qualify for the renewal course, you must have a working knowledge of dysrhythmia recognition and provide evidence of a current AHA Healthcare Provider CPR card and a current ACLS Provider card. Textbook optional. Email safety@chepinc.org if you wish to purchase a copy.Successful completion of both a written and a skills exam is required to renew ACLS Provider status. Licensed Practical Nurse to Registered Nurse Transition  

This course facilitates the transition of licensed practical nurses into the Associate of Science in Nursing Degree program at Harford Community College. Applicants must meet all admission requirements for Harford Community College's associate Degree Nursing Program, complete all nursing course prerequisites, take the Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS), and have successfully completed the NCLEX-PN licensure examination. Tests are taken in the Test Center. Skills testing is done in the nursing lab. Textbook required and available in the College Store. Participation in Assessment Technologies Institute (ATI) for practice tests, proctored tests, and other study materials is required. Cost for ATI is $400, half of which is due by the course start date. The balance is paid during the third semester. Instructor permission required. Nurse Refresher Clinical  

Apply the knowledge and skills you learned in the theory and skills lab components of the Nurse Refresher Series in a 60-hour supervised clinical setting. Various locations may be used, and the instructor will schedule your assignment individually with a preceptor. Your experience will include the application of the nursing process, management of patient care, delegation, documentation, and medication administration. You will need a uniform, stethoscope, and a watch with a second hand. Documentation of the following information must be provided prior to the first day of class: a current Healthcare Provider CPR card; proof of immunization for measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella; a negative TB skin test or a negative chest x-ray; and current liability insurance. Nurse Refresher Theory  

Are you an RN or an LPN interested in maintaining or reactivating your license? This Nurse Refresher Series fulfills the Maryland Board of Nursing requirements for nurses returning to active practice. The curriculum consists of 80 hours of theory, 8 hours of skills lab, and 60 hours clinical training. This course is the theory component. Content includes assessment skills, medication update, medical equipment, clinical specialties, standard precautions, management of intravenous lines, legal issues, and documentation. You must register for and successfully complete the theory, skills lab, and clinical portions of this program to reactivate your Maryland nursing license. Must provide proof of a current, unencumbered active or inactive Maryland nursing license. Text and Nurse Kits required and available for purchase in the College Store. Nursing Assistant Clinical  

Practice skills learned in Nursing Assistant Theory. This clinical placement provides experience in area nursing homes under the supervision of a Registered Nurse. Perfect attendance is mandatory for all clinical sessions. Topics include the application of healthcare and disease theory in the clinical setting, infection control, environmental safety, performance of patient care skills, observation, reporting, and documentation. American Heart Association CPR for the Healthcare Provider; evidence of adequate immunization for rubella, chicken pox, and mumps; and proof of a current negative TB skin test or a negative chest x-ray reading required before admission to clinical. Physical requirements included the ability to lift, push, pull, etc. 50 pounds without restriction. Current enrollment in Nursing Assistant Theory required. Nursing Assistant Theory  

This Maryland Board of Nursing (MBON) approved course prepares you to safely perform delegated nursing functions with clients of any age and various levels of physical, sensory, motor, and emotional ability. Topics include anatomy and physiology, growth and development, disease process, medical terminology, infection control, environmental safety, and patient care procedures. Those who successfully complete both the theory and clinical components of this program are eligible to apply for certification with the MBON, and to take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program (NNAAP) examination. Perfect attendance is mandatory for all classes and clinical. Evidence of adequate immunization for rubella, chicken pox, and mumps, and proof of a current negative TB skin test or a negative chest x-ray reading required before admission to clinical. Physical requirements included the ability to lift, push, pull, etc. 50 pounds without restriction. Textbooks, available at the College Store, required for the first class. Before registration, make an appointment at the Test Center (443-412-2352) to complete the reading (ACR) and math (ACA) assessments. Corequisite: American Heart Association CPR for the Healthcare Provider. Concurrent enrollment in Nursing Assistant Clinical required. Students must be at least 18 years old and possess a high school diploma or GED. The MBON requires a federal and state criminal background check (at the student's expense) prior to certification.
